Introduction

Rollcage is a fast paced racing game, with the ability for each car to fire weapons at other cars.
Rollcage stage 2 just adds to the number of tracks, game modes, cars and weapons, and improves the graphics. Unfortunately it removes the option of playing a multiplayer game with computer opponents, and the random track feature.

As a single player game it is fun but will not keep you interested for long. As a multiplayer game it will last for ages.

The main feature of the game seems to be the use of weapons, some tracks enable them to be used more effectively than others. The cars are all very fast and accelerate very quickly. They vary slightly along these lines. Some cars are stronger than others (important in collisions) but they are all indestructable, the weapons are only a means of slowing people down. Unlike other racing games, Rollcage encourages tactics, and skills other than driving. Being in first place means only that you have no one to shoot at, and that everyone will shoot at you. The Physics of the game take some getting used to. For example it is possible to drive on the ceiling!

Weapons by TNM

The element of Rollcage that makes it stand out from other racing games. Without weaponry Rollcage would be a very ordinary game.

There is space for two weapons in your car, two icons at the bottom left of the screen indicate which weapons you have (if any). On the track weapons will appear in certain places and will regenerate after a given time. Weapons are also given automatically when you complete a "perfect lap" (not hitting anything, or falling off the track etc.). There is no way of knowing what a weapon is until you pick it up, and there is no way of discarding a weapon without using it. In Rollcage stage II, it is possible to aquire "doubled" weapons. This happens when you pick up a weapon you already have- it becomes doubled. The effect of this varies depending on the weapon. The various possible weapons are as follows.
Note: the weapon names used are not the Official names.

1) Homing Missile This weapon when fired will basically home in on whoever happens to be in first place, and blow them up. When you aquire a double homing missile you will send two missiles instead of one.

2) Worm Hole This weapon opens up a worm hole in front of you which transports you in front of the driver ahead of you. Other cars can drive through the worm hole after you if they reach it before it closes. It is possible to collect as many worm holes as you want, the more you have, the further you jump, (ie 3 worm holes will enable you to jump 3 places in the race.

3) "Normal" Missile Perhaps one of the most important weapons in the game. From a limited range simply fires a missile directly at your opponent sending him flying :) When doubled, fires two missiles together. Must be used in conjuncion with the target car button.

4) Shield Very useful defensive weapon. A shield will protect you from missiles etc. stopping them from sending you up in the air. Once hit by a missile your shield will disappear, and can also be damaged by crashing into walls and cars. It will also make your car stronger, such that you can push other cars around. A double shield will stop other cars from being able to target you, and will withstand two missile hits. The shield won't protect you from freeze weapons.

5) Speed boost simply allows you to go faster for a limited time, allowing you to either catch up or extend your lead. When doubled, makes you go even faster.

6) Ice spikes Extend from the side of your car and enable you to freeze the tyres of your opponent. You must be alongside your opponent for this to work. The result is that your opponent will find steering very difficult, and will have to wait for his tyres to thaw. When doubled this weapon gives you a speed boost as well.

7) Driller missile Shoots out three small missiles in a straight line, faster than a normal missile, and spinning in the air, with a green trail. Your opponent will be knocked into the air if hit by it, and the missiles will keep going until they hit a wall or building (so several cars can be hit by one driller missile). When doubled, two driller missiles are fired one after the other.

8) Time warp This will slow down other cars while leaving your car unaffected. The extent to which cars are slowed down depends on their race position. (first place car is slowed down the most, and so on...) When doubled this weapon just lasts longer.

9) Freeze ray
The most satisfying, and most difficult weapon to use. Fires out an orange ray in a straight line in front of your car. Any car in its way will be knocked up in the air and frozen solid for a short time. The weapon is difficult to use because it takes time to "warm up" before firing. When doubled, this weapon will allow you to fire backwards as well.

10) Machine gun Not the most useful weapon. Fires a machine gun from the front of your car, for limited time. Hitting your opponent with this will slow him down and hinder his steering. When doubled, the bullets are green, and the machine gun will automatically aim at your nearest opponent.

11)
Shockwave This weapon is useful only in close range situations, and is most effective when you know someone is about to use a wormhole to jump ahead of you. Basically it causes a shockwave which knocks those around you into the air, it takes a short time to warm up though. When doubled it will warm up faster.

12) Shock Ring
(not sure about the name) Another close range weapon. If anyone bumps into you while this is activated, they will be thrown into the air. Again, useful when someone is using a wormhole against you. When doubled it includes a green tractor beam to pull your opponent closer.
